Why Choose Southend-On-Sea for Your Seaside Holiday Break?

Why Choose Southend-On-Sea For Your Seaside Holiday Break?

Some of Britain’s best beaches are located in Southend-On-Sea. They are known worldwide for their vintage charm, soft sand, and the world’s longest pier! Thorpe Bay’s bright beach huts are the archetypal picture postcard, and this blue flag beach is ideal for those in search of a wide array of water sports. You can easily sail, windsurf, or kayak from this stunning stretch of sand.

The Best Seaside Beach On the South Coast of England

Forget Cornwall, the best beaches are right here in Southend-On-Sea! Take East Beach for example. A grassy verge makes East Beach perfect for picnickers, and it’s also home to Essex’ Kitesurfing Club, so bright kites billow and wheel attractively overhead throughout the year.

While most Southend-On-Sea beaches are covered in pebbles and stones, Shoebury East Beach is long and sandy, so it’s ideal for all the family and dipping your toes in the blue water! Because the sandy beach is backed by a large grassy area that’s very popular for picnics. East Beach is sandwiched between Pig’s Bay MOD site and the former Shoeburyness Artillery Barracks.

Seaside Activities for all the Family

There’s just so much to do in Southend, but when it comes to the beaches, the activities available are almost endless. You will definitely want to check out Southend Pier because not only is it a major landmark in Southend-on-Sea, but it also extends 1.34 miles into the Thames Estuary, making it the longest pleasure pier in the world!

An excellent beach to visit is Thorpe Bay. It’s a sandy beach located in the Southend-on-Sea area of the Thames estuary by the popular resort of Thorpe Bay. Thorpe Bay has won both Blue Flag and Quality Coast awards guaranteeing not only clean water but that this is a safe family beach with a host of facilities. Thorpe bay is an excellent destination for water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. If you prefer to keep your activities on dry land you will find nearby there are tennis courts, a bowling club and a paddling pool.

Plenty of Places to Dine and Relax

Most of the beaches in Southend have lots of lovely cafes and eateries so you won’t go hungry. For example, if you’re in Leigh-On-Sea, Osborne Brothers is a world-famous fresh seafood restaurant. This amazing seafood cafe sits on the shores of the Thames Estuary serving traditional seafood and shellfish, as well as sandwiches, fresh rolls and delicious fresh salads. It’s a must-visit when you visit the area!
